  • Born in Subiaco, Perth, Andrew Brown developed his interest in the visual Arts from a young age, drawing inspiration from illustrated encyclopaedias, nature and his immediate gold mining environment in the Goldfields of  Western Australia where he spent most of his childhood. In 1978, he was enrolled in a water colour painting course held in Boulder by the artist Walter Terrell. Devoloping his own romantic representational painting style, his paintings were sold to both local Kalgoorlie citizens and to tourists looking for representations of local landmarks such as goldmine headframes and rustic buildings. Many of the historic mining structures were being ‘progressively’ demolished as part of the expansion of open pit mining around the Kalgoorlie-Boulder area during the mid 80's. Andrew photographed many of the headframe vistas prior to their demolition and created paintings of them for prosterity. In late 1993 he moved to Perth to study product Design at Curtin University, . . . more
